George's response:
The characters in my book True Notebooks are surrounded by their gang lives and what gang they were in. They have been locked up for the decisions that they have made, and are begining to realize what should have been important when they were on the outside. The lives that these kids led prevented them from seeing the bigger picture, they only saw what they wanted to see. Some of the characters realize that they thought heir gangs were the only thing they needed but now they see that there was actually good things they could have done. They didn't have to be in a gang and make the choices that they did, they could have made something out of themseleves. they are begining to realize that the route they chose to go prevented them from seeing the "clouds". The characters in this book are locked away for different reasons but they still feeel the same, they want to change and instead of being in gangs they look to the "clouds" to help them become someone differnt. they look at the "clouds" so that they can overcome some of the struggles they have been faced with. although many of them will never see the outside of a jail cell they still are striving to become a part of society and they want to change. I can relate to this as well. I've made some choices I shouldn't have and now i'm faced with the consiqunces they only differnce is that i have another chance to prove myself, which they do not. something i would look at to get passed strugles would be something that made me happy or something that i want and try to accomplish to overcome the other struggles.
Michelles question:
I think that she probably doesn't want to tell because her socity tells her she can not be a profit, all socitys have a norm and people are expected to follow. She feels differnt because she wants to be a profit. she doesnt want to tell her parents because she doesnt want to make them upset. I can relate to her because people tell me all the time I can't be what i want to be when i get older because it is considered to be something only a male would have knollage about, I've had people laugh at me and look down on me because they do not think I can do it, when really I know more than most males do about the subject. I understand how she feels like she can only relie on herself to become a profit because she doesnt want people to tell her she can not do it simply because of her gender and what soceity believes. In the book true notebooks, mark writes about all of the sterotypes of how he thinks the kids are in the juvenile hall. He doesnt want to share that with them because it's his owbn personal thoughts.
Yes there has been a time in my life when i wabted to share something with someone and couldnt becasue of my role. I feel like somethimes i cannot tell people things based on how i feel.
