This course is designed to introduce you to the rigors and rewards of college life. Over the next four weeks you will learn what is expected of you in college, and develop many of the skills necessary to succeed at Columbia. Hafizah and I are here to guide and support you in the process, but ultimately this is your education and you are responsible for your success.
This blog is a collaborative space for critical engagement with the texts, museum visits, and lectures, as well as expanding on in-class discussions and interacting with your classmates. Every student is expected to contribute to it daily.
For your first post, please introduce yourself. Tell us:
*Who you are and where you're from.
*What is your major and why did you decide to pursue education at Columbia?
*What are three things that are important to you? Why are they important?
*Anything else you'd like your classmates and instructors to know. Try to go beyond just biographical information. Instead tell us something that will shine a light on who you are.
*Include a photograph that will deepen our understanding of what you are telling us. This may not be a photograph of yourself (though it can be), but rather a photograph that epitomizes, as much as possible, what you are trying to communicate.
*The title of the blog should be your first name. Look at our examples for guidance.
This first response should be at least one paragraph (five complete sentences) long.
Again, welcome to Columbia! Hafizah and I are very excited to work with you over the next several weeks.
-Izzy
