Day 10 Eli Responce- Megan Schaus

Eli-
I thought this was a really well written question. I strongly agree, Mark has developed such a great relationship with each one of the boys in his class. I think that each boy looks at him as a role model. That he is on their side, when everyone else is not, because of the crimes they have committed. Mark treats the inmates with respect, which is relevant because most likely many people don't. The boys also talk to him as if he is there friend. They are not afraid to share personal stories and experiences, which makes them grow as a person. The boys aren't the only people learning from the writing class, but Mark is learning as well. Mark has developed an individual connection with each of the inmates in his class. He most likely consideres them his own.
If someone commits a crime, they get sent to jail, has a hearing, and the rest is out of our control. Depending on how serious and violent the crime was, jail can be a an hour to a lifetime. I think Mark is going to react negatively to the news of one of his classmates going to Prision for a lifetime. The boys are apart of Mark now, and whath appens to them will influence him a lot. The majority of Marks time, has been spent trying to influence their lives, and a lifetime in prision is a waste of time, knowledge, and an all around life. I think Mark will develop a feeling of depression and loss. This is going to be a time in the novel, when the reader isn't going to feel
sympathy toward the inmate, but Mark.
If I were in Marks position, I would feel upset, but I would have to accept the decision that was made. Many people had suffered because of the mistake the child made, and its only fair he deals with the consequences. I think before agreeing to work at a Correctional Facility, you would have to consider instances like this taking place. From the beginning, Mark knew that life in prision is always a possibility for any of the boys. It may be sad, a life completely lost, but that just shows you what happens when judgement is used the wrong way.
