Georges Response Day 11

Michelles Question Response:

Going to a new place is always nerve wrecking. Marjane, I'm sure was skeptical about leaving to live in Vienna. In my recent reading of True Notebooks Jimmy was caught with some drugs in his room. Jimmy was taken to what they called "the box" which is just heavy confinement. It sounds like in Persepolis, Marjane is going to Vienna to pursue education. Jimmy had the opposite, he was given the writing class and gets it taken away for misbehavior and not just drugs but fighting, talking back etc. Jimmy talks about many challenges he faced while being in "the box". Personal items were taken from him. Challenges from "the box" seem to fold over to his normal holding as well. Jimmy no longer has the small things he enjoyed there, and he lost all of his meeting times for his family. Jimmy will get these privileges back eventually when staff feels he deserves them. Marjane leaves to keep getting the proper schooling but that's because of a war in her country. I feel like the boys in K/L, the boys in the whole facility are at war in some way. Jimmy got caught smoking in his room and I see that as battling what he's given in Juvenile Hall. All of the inmates want some sense of what the outside world used to give them. The want for things people can do and get everyday seems to only keep them from it longer. If they never get released it makes what they already have worse.
