Day 11: Richard

Michelle's Response

Well in True Notebooks the same inmate is always put into the "box" which is solitary confinement. The only time they are placed into this situation is when they make a disturbance or unbalance the control of the juvenile hall. Jimmy, who was released from solitary confinement earlier in the book, was placed back in because he was caught smoking weed which is an illegal substance in and outside the juvenile walls. Most of the characters in the juvenile hall leave or take a leave to go to court but are placed back when they are done with the trail. The boys make they come to class and never have been dismissed because of immature behavior, they have been in arguments with each other before but never got to a point to a physical altercation. Mark sees the potential of these young kids and he knows that they can make a difference but making the transition from juvenile to adult prison is not an easy task. Marjane is in a good setting as of right now. See besides being around the war and seeing things unimaginable she is prone to focus on her education which in her country was somewhat not possible because of the female laws in her country. She has been through turmoil and now I think she has time to relax and focus on her needs to get out of her country while they are still at war. Comparing both of the characters it seems Marjane has an advantage to change her life around and the inmates may have many chances but still don’t have a chance to change their life.
