Society plays a main role in the novel True Notebooks. The kids minds revolved around living up to the expectations of society. I think this is a major problems among teenagers. There is so much pressure that we are told to ignore, but that is so much easier said than done. Pressure does not only come from society, but from family and friends as well. Built up pressure and stress causes people to make relaxed decisions, which ends up getting them in trouble. I think thats why most of the children at Central ended up there. People are generally good, until negativly influenced. Society has the power to alter someones personality, as well as their outlook on life. In True Notebooks we notice Jimmys outlook on religion has negativly changed. Is this because of the position he is in now at Central, or is the blame put on society? I think its a little bit of both. It is scary that the power of society is so influencial, it can change someones life.
For the last eighteen years, I've tried to ignore the impact of society. If I've showed the littlest interest, I may not be the person I am today. For example, my friends were really into drugs and I never showed an interest. Movies and magazines, showed my friends its considered "cool" and "fun" to inhale and snort objects that will end up killing you. In my situation, society played a negative part in influencing my friends. It has caused them to eventually lead a very slow, painful life. Society doesn't always have to be negative. If you know when to apply it to your life, you may end up benefiting. Do not to allow yourself to be negatively influenced by peer pressure. The worst will come out of it, and may change your life forever.
I can completely agree with what your saying. It seems as if these days that the word "society" is such a bad term. Any generalizations, sterotypes, or labels never carry a good connotation. While kids always grow up to think that there is some "cool" crowd, it seems to me that not fitting in is the new norm. It shows that the kids who "arent" following the crowd, are the real standouts and people of intrest. It seems these days that nobody settles for average anymore. You have to have that special something to stand out among the masses. I used to think this way and fall into that "crowd" , but i see the positives of being so blind to society, that i now know who i want to be. I feel as if with seeing so many followers before us, this is a new generation for nothing but LEADERS.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean as in like in this generation teenagers go through things and either because they want to fit it or be cool. I think that pressure takes over them because people shouldn't do anything they don't want to do. And I think their should be more leaders than followers. We need to change society for the better. We can be positive and have goals in life. The negative things is just that so many of people are dying in our neighborhoods and it's over dumb things the teenagers who are doing that need to stop the violence and killings. It's a nightmare listening to the news reporter saying some young kid got shot last night. We need more positive goals.
