Eli Roberts Reading Response August 9th 2010

Tatum Response

I think that not only all of the charecters in true notebooks share the same struggles as franchesco when it comes between the constant fight between good and bad. I think that this is something that is universal. I think that we all have a fight going on inside of us were there is one side of us saying to do the thing that is not good for us and actually may cause harm. And there is another side in us that directs us to do what is good for our well being. I know that personally it is a everyday struggle for me to balance both sides of good and evil. i think that evil is weakness. and if it wasnt for evil we wouldnt fall for our weaknesses and have to get back up again. i think we all know that good is great. but i think good and evil both have very important roles in the lives of every one. So i say all of that to say that i think that all of the charecters inside of true notebooks have battles that rage deep within their hearts on a day to day basis. I think that alot of them deal with it and cope with it in diffrent ways. I think that that Franchesco copes with it thru his since of humor. I also know that he cries to deal with the pressure.

When i think of the analogy between a angel and a devil i think of salt and surgar. why? because one is overwhelmingly sweet. and one is overwhelmingly sour. But when in correct balance and proportion they create a satisfying experience. I think this can symbolize the guys inside of the the juvinille center. because they have a enjoyable side wich i could relate to sugar. but they also have a bitter side wich i relate to salt.

I think that i had come to a very harsh reality when i realized that when i turned 18 i was going to be responsible for me in ways that i hadnt quite thought about. the reality was alarming. But more alarming was the fact that if i diddnt push to go to school then know one else was going to push me to go to school. i had to realize that if i diddnt take care of my education then know one else would. I had to realize that i couldnt take the time to plan my life out then my life just would not be planned or it would be planned by the help of another. but even if my life was planned with the help of another it would still be up to me to live up to the plan so either way it had went when i was 18 it was time for me to make the desicion to begin doing what was truely best for me. this was a scarey reality because when you have know knoledge of a thing, its very scary and this was the time when i had first started going out into the world. The negatives for having to figure things out on your own is that there is fear because, as i had said earlier when you have know knoldege of a thing you never know what your going to get. But another downside to figuring things out on your own is that most likely you will fail more v.s. having someone around to help you through the pitrfalls of what ever situation you are currently in.

The positive side to having someone help you figure things out is that the persons who's helping you out expierence can save you years of toil and failure because they had already been down that road. Franchisco a charecter in my book is looking at a reality of life in prision. It is a harsh reality but it is a real reality.

  1. I loved your response, Eli, and this is the point i wanted to stress with my question. Although trial and error can be rough, ultimately you really find yourself. What your made of, and what your capable of. When things stop being handed to you and you learn to grow up on your own is one of the most important times in a young man's life. Once you find nobody is out there to help, your on your own. With school, you can find your own ways to study and be helpful. Nobody again, is ever going to be over your shoulder telling you how to study and think.
