Well in my book, Marji shows a lot of times where she's an angel and a devil at the same time. She started off by wanting to become a prophet and wanting to change all the things she saw wrong then became this girl who wanted to fight the war and rebel against God. I think what changed her view on her choice was the revolution that was going on plus the fact that many people didn't believe in her choice of being a prophet. It discouraged her enough and opened her eyes to see the bigger picture of it all.To see that because of the war, there were bigger things than everyone having Cadillacs or maids sitting at dinner tables to worry about. There was her education, her friends, and her own family and beliefs.Like on pg. 44, Marji finds out Ramin's father was in the savak and killed millions of people. So automatically, Marji goes and starts chasing after Ramin with nails in between fingers for what his father did, not him. She didn't think at first that it wasn't Ramin's fault his father killed those people but she judged too quickly. If I were to use symbols to describe my two different sides, I would choose a peace sign and an anarchy sign. The peace sign because there are times where I am a total tree hugger and I prefer for people to care for one another and to not judge. I'm the kind of person to go out of their way for someone else cause i know it's the right thing to do. Then again, my anarchy sign would represent the times I tend to repress bad feelings for other people or sometimes the way I always want to get revenge on someone who has done harm to me or anyone else I really care about. Overall, I think they both balance out but sometimes can unbalance themselves.

Something in life that I harshly had to realize was that nothing really lasts as long as you want it to. Be it relationships, food, seasons, people. Sometimes we can care so much for a person but that never promises that that person will care just as much as you or will stick around for long. Another time can be when you lose one you care about so quickly, it's kind of like you just blink and bam. Gone. In a way, it can be beneficial but at times just disheartening. Relationship wise, you can learn from certain situations and make things better in the next one or make sure you don't make the same mistakes. But when someone passes away, that's not really something you can fully recover from. I think when I found out these things on my own, it hurt but I knew had to overcome it and learn from it instead of just laying down and dying over it. Marji's uncle Anoosh was a criminal on the run and one day was arrested. He could only have one visitor and choose to see Marji. When she went to see him, he assured her of how everything would be ok and she didn't have to worry. But soon enough the next day, the paper showed how he was executed. After that, Marji felt so lost and out of sorts. One second he's telling her all these stories and the next, he's the story on the front page. It devastated her but at the same time as time passed, she knew she had to fight and remember who she was as a person. She would do it in the memory of her uncle. She had to realze that life would bring heartache and hard times but she had to be strong for her and her family.
